Jolt Cola Cup: success?

The Jola Cola Cup happened yesterday. NOR won with 4 points. Allen was a close second with 3. Oz also scored a point. Paul, Nate and Jason did not score but had a big impact on the fight. All in all, I think most people had a lot of fun (especially during character creation), and the event was a big success.

The JCC was designed to be a brutal competition, with only one possible winner. But I can’t help feeling bad for the people who were taken out within the first two rounds by Oz’s petrification attack: Alex, Andy, Brian and Joel. From what I saw, none of them had weak characters. I was looking forward to seeing them in action. I knew that there was more stuff in the rules packet than people could possibly put to use, but I still wanted to see a wide variety of things in play. I was not disappointed: no more than two people chose any given race or class, to the best of my knowledge.

It bothers me that even though I knew this was a brutal competition, and everyone involved knew, I was still shocked to see people eliminated so early. I feel really sad that four people who spent six hours crafting nifty characters hardly got the chance to use them. I failed to design a set of rules that made it sufficiently difficult for people to be one-shot eliminated, when doing so was one of the major goals of the packet.

Anyway, now I have to catch up on a few things. I mortgaged as much time as I could; fortunately, the price to get back up to speed isn’t too high. I just have to watch the anime I missed on Thursday night, and get some extra sleep tonight. I should finally have some time to spend with Anna tonight, which makes me feel a little better.

I am going on a business trip this weekend, and as soon as I get back next week we’re doing Suikofest at Andy’s for three days. I’m still too tired to be enthusiastic about either of those things, unfortunately. Maybe that will change in a few days.

Today’s forecast: mostly painful with a 30% chance of death.
