Malosi chieftain, a well-muscled, bejeweled centaur with a spiked chain and a missing finger joint, who appeared in response to the tattoo transplant to challenge the SPI’s presence in “his domain.” Arrogant but perceptive, he disdainfully called Freki a “lycan,” and asked to handle Cal’s sword; when Cal refused, he backed down and let the agents leave.

In Freki’s vision of the past, he sneered among fire and blood, “There is nothing else I need from a lycan”; in a vision of what might be, he strangled Freki with a glowing fist and swung his spiked chain.

Rode into Alye’adu with Cal’s stolen sword at his hip.

13e03

Followed the agents into Alye’adu with Cal’s stolen sword, the Arkenstab, to take “what is his”: the changelings’ shapeshifting power. Throat singing, he chilled the air and brought down snow to stall the agents, but Vondal banished him for a minute, and when he returned, the agents had the better of him, and Cal snatched back his sword.

13e04

Turned into a were-tiger-centaur (“You all stink of the gods. How fortunate for me”), and pulled at the agents’ souls, stealing something from Bec and Cal. Cut in half by Ozborn, he was revivified by Andalla, healed himself, and yielded. Granting the war price under Selva custom, he called the agents godlings, whom he would have to kill if they became like “the others,” invited them to join the Malosi, promised not to harm the village, and vanished with his companions.

In Freki’s forgotten memory, shown in the mirror, Talos came to Freki’s village for power, laughed at Freki’s father, and killed him after a fight in which the weretiger raked him, crying “Abomination! God hater!”
