Concerned as the agents broke through into HQ. Ceowyn said she had the power to help the party overcome their ailment.

Healed Freki, and told the agents that they held part of some power, the creature held another part, and that the power craved to become whole again.

Confided to Freki that the agents’ best course was to extricate themselves rather than end up powerless in the holding cell. She freed Panthea and Meroe to bring them along, and teleported away with the agents.

14e00

Missing, until Callie’s sending to her brought Ozborn’s monkey statue to life: the monkey was Cassandra, somehow, and also the shadow in the Hornblade. Bec and Callie’s dispel magic separated them, and Cassandra fell to the floor, unconscious; Mallory laid her in Vondal’s bed to recover.

Recovering, she helped Mallory restore HQ, and remembered what had happened to her: ambushed with Eeoram at HQ by the Malosi, she was slain by Andalla, and fled from Andalla’s pull on her spirit into the monkey statue, where she began to commingle with the monkey’s soul. Bec noticed she had no shadow; the monkey turned out to have two, one of them hers.

Woke as the agents teleported into the women’s dorm, and healed them, astounded by their injuries. She found Ozborn’s luck had abandoned him, confirmed the Celestial Hand was no longer evil, took notes as the agents debriefed Mallory, and wanted to open the trap door in the basement.

Said Ozborn now looked “sparkly” like the rest of the team, and that Rubinia might have Flux poisoning. To everyone’s surprise, she could pass the forcefield beneath HQ, and Mallory sent her along to keep the agents from doing anything stupid. Below, she brought Bec a letter from her father, and recognized the tiefling who approached as Audreth.

Tried to cast a spell during the agents’ parley with Audreth, provoking him (“Honorless!”), and was struck by Megaera’s arrows. She bolstered the agents with a massive radiant spell, held the Cerberus with hold monster, and helped with Audreth’s ritual. Asked whether they should go to the tower: “No. But I think we have to.”

Her magic against the possessed monkey began disintegrating her hand (“This can’t be real! Not again…!”), and her shadow was bound to the creature, so that Cal’s and Ozborn’s blows hurt her too. The flesh-beast engulfed her, but she invoked a divine lightning from within, which Cal’s sword absorbed; when Callie’s spiritual weapon finished the creature, it turned back into Cassandra, unconscious, her shadow restored. She mused that the place seemed hostile to her specifically.

Knelt over a vision of Callie’s mother, sprouting fish parts from an aboleth’s seed she could not stop. Lorelei, on her throne, called her “Mother?”

Blinded by the madness, as Vondal reshaped it. Her healing spell struck Shadow Oz, wounding Ozborn too, and she spotted an invisible shadow creature for Cal.

Could see “Pony Vondal,” one of the agents’ alternate selves. When Freki turned monstrous, she cast the same spell Sartus had used on the Necronomicon, restoring him, and did not die. She dispelled the Flux tentacle on Lorelei.

16e07

Enveloped the agents in protective divine light, healed Audreth, and spent the last of her strength on a greater restoration to clear Ozborn’s confusion, then fell.

Struggled up to speak a divine word, separating Audreth from one of the shadow monsters. When Megaera demanded death for life, the shadows descended on Cassandra, but Callie’s aura of life saved her and Megaera could not take her soul. Afterward, she hugged the changing Lorelei, stopping her transformation.

Now able to speak, she suggested detaining Nondal for questioning, and cast death ward on Freki. She identified the place as an Afterworld layer, looked around for Mallory, and, back at HQ, healed the agents.

17e00

Silently followed Rubinia and Lorelei out as they left in the night, and gave them a sending stone. She told Mallory she didn’t want a fight. She felt she had been blessed all her life by a “forgotten goddess,” perhaps linked to the Hornblade, and that her own Fluxtaint had faded on its own.

18e00

Let Eeoram back in through the basement trap door. She revealed two new abilities through the SPI badges and sending stones, Hearthkeeper’s Reach and Cassandra’s Soul Extension, and confirmed that she could extend her essence into the field agents: “It’s as though we all share a piece of the same soul.” With Bec and Callie, she placed contingency spells on every special field agent.
