Beyond a divine gate to the true Afterworld, at the heart of the Flux, the agents found another Vondal meditating on a pedestal. He effortlessly dodged their attacks, removed and returned Ozborn’s dagger, healed himself, and debated balance with Freki, radiating patience and pity. He said he had come for power over death, and gotten it. He has no scent, and a white crane tattoo on his ankle.

Called “Nondal” by Bec, since he said his name did not matter, he answered the agents’ questions with calm non-answers: he sought understanding of death, not power over it, and was “here because I am supposed to be here.” Attacked, he displaced, slipped Freki’s vines, and leeched part of Freki’s soul with two open-palm strikes. Bec’s dispel magic dissolved him, revealing an astral projection: a duplicate body, not his own.
