The World Tree is dying. The cancer druid writes "Yggdrasil" into the Necronomicon every day. The Warforged and elves hunt the druid fruitlessly, while one elven holy sorcerer has a bolder plan.
The SPI was hired by the Holy Sorcerer Sartus Morningdew to retrieve the Fruit of Life from the World Tree and save both the dying tree and Queen Ambriel Estanesse, who had been possessed by Zuggtmoy, a parasitic fungal entity that had infiltrated through underground mycelial passages while the court slept. The agents climbed the World Tree, navigated illusions and guardians, and discovered that the druid Isis Ra’ksh—revealed to be a doppelganger—and her gnome accomplice Peregrine Shackleton were blocking access to the Fruit under the influence of the corrupted Necronomicon. Rather than steal the Acorn, the party chose to cleanse the source of corruption: they infiltrated the palace treasury, obtained the crystal-sealed Book of the Dead, and performed a ritual with Sartus to erase its evil writings—at the cost of Sartus’s life. The agents then confronted the Queen in her throne room, where Lorissa Stormseeker devised a banishment strategy and an arrow of slaying—fashioned from a page of the cleansed Book—destroyed Zuggtmoy’s ooze form, freeing the Queen and saving the World Tree from total corruption.
